About the Concept

Plants Are Like People, Together They Are Stronger

Syntrophic Agroforestry means that plants are like people. When they cooperate, they can do more than when they are alone. The plants we choose can help each other by fertilizing the soil, pulling up water from deep aquifers, and holding the water nearer the surface where plants need it. That allows us to plant on degraded soil that does not support agriculture or a forest. This works best on land where there once were forests. In our ten-year proof of concept with partners in Central America we were able to restore a full meter of water to the ground and make the soil fertile and teeming with life. Today it is a rainforest, ten years ago it did not support life. What we mainly plant are three oil trees that together are capable of working this miracle in five to seven years’ time.

2024

Start of an Agroforestry Project on 75’000 ha Degraded Soil in Techiman, Ghana

2029

Start of intercropping between trees thanks to restored fertile soil.
About the Plants

Our Species And Our Promise To Nature

The magic three are Acrocomia aculeata (macauba palm), nontoxic Jatropha curcas (tempate) and Ricinus communis (castor or higuerilla). Intercropping with additional indigenous plants is possible by about year five. That could be botanicals like artemisia and vetiver, valuable food like cassava, yam, cacao or other crops in high demand. Next to groups of the three other oil trees are strands of closely grouped Moringa oleifera. This well-loved tree is planted for its extremely valuable leaves packed with protein and vitamin C. Sites will be organically certified. Wildlife as well as lifestock corridors planted with grasses and speckled with watering holes will safeguard biodiversity within the sites and allow peaceful symbiosis between agricultural and pastoral uses.

October 2024 planting starts: 3’000 ha Ricinus & 5’000 ha. Moringa

2025

12’000 ha. Ricinus & 10’000 ha Moringa

2026

12’000 ha Ricinus & 15’000 ha Moringa & 10’000 ha Acrocomia & Jatropha combined

2030

20’000 ha Moringa, 40’000 ha Acrocomia & Jatropha combined.
About Climate

Climate Crisis

It has become common place in this Decade of Ecosystem Restoration, that NBS is a mayor contributor to restore the balance with nature and to address multiple challenges with one activity. Planting on such a large scale has proven to have a positive impact on the local micro-climate. Based on our track record in Central America we expect that within reach of the site a drop in temperature will occur. Water retention and thus Ground water will improve. CO² capture will be monitored and registered in order to gain more data on the effect of our setup on the climate. Asjeba aims to obtain certification for its carbon sinks.

About the Products

Products

The oils and their pods can be used for fuel, jet fuel, food, cosmetics, chemicals, nutraceuticals, insect and fish farming and animal feeds. Together with a West African food company we are developing new products from Moringa leaves, adding value and investing in local laboratories. That will enable us to process certified organic Moringa powder of the highest quality possible as well as to extract protein and vitamins. Employees will have access to allotments, beehives, fishponds and markets in the villages to feed all inhabitants of the Agroforestry Projects.

2025

2’160 t Ricinus oil; 10’500 t Moringa powder

2026

8‘640 t Ricinus oil; 31‘500 t Moringa powder; 462 t Jatropha oil

At full production

42‘000 t Moringa powder; 13’000 t Jatropha oil; 22’000 t Acrocomia pulp oil; 11’000 t Acrocomia Kernel oil.
About the Investment

Doing Good and generating attractive profits to be looped back to the projects

Asjeba sites are huge to be able to bear all overhead cost. It also allows us to do landscaping, create an environment where local people can and want to live with water and sanitation, homes, roads, energy, wifi, schools, clinics, community services. Asjeba will that way co-create a cash machine that will finance this environment and will continue to support these hard working communities far into the future. We have chosen for a special lease construction that ultimately leaves the community as owners of all they have built and planted together. Each site of 75’000 hectares includes infrastructure, planting, one midsize town, one village per 2’000 hectares and will support up to a quarter of a million people. Investors are paid back in year seven, thereafter all profits will be used to further upgrade infrastructure and finance social engagement.

About our Businessmodel

Investor Information

Our business model is based on a fully transparent ten percent margin for distribution of the goods produced on the site. Sites should break even in year three. Exit is possible in year seven. For detailed information please send us an email.

About Apprenticeship

Smart Sites, Smart Human Resources

Asjeba will introduce the Swiss apprenticeship system for the youth, 4 days on the field under supervision, 2 days to school to obtain recognized master certificates in conservation agriculture as well as language and numerical literacy. Every village will have a primary school. Every fifth village will have a secondary school as well. There will be a school with demonstration fields for adults. The central town will have higher education in addition. This setup should it make possible that the drive to move to big cities can be reversed.
